ING Commercial Finance installs Pager/Control In December 2005 ING Commercial Finance installed Pager/Control on the iSeries system at their Bunnik offices. Tom Hijman, head of systems and network management at ING Commercial Finance chose Pager/Control because "We want staff (whether in the house or "on call") to be notified by mail or SMS when a problem occurs in our core systems, so they are able to take timely action. This action must be taken not only, in a reactive way but also in a pro-active way where staff are notified on, for example, disk capacity reaching predefined thresholds. Informational messages are being sent to operational staff about successful completion of the save procedure. Messages are sent about the status of our High Availability software solution that is critical to our business to allow 24x7 availability. Disruption of the latter service needs urgent attention. It is used for monitoring our subsystems and jobs that are essential for our daily operations. Pager/Control is highly configurable so we are able to monitor subsystems being active but we also monitor certain subsystems that should not be active during a certain time frame. We also monitor a minimum or maximum number of jobs running in a defined subsystem. We can monitor individual jobs running in our systems. Also Pager/Control was used in the test/development environment to inform developers about software errors/problem that occur during testing. Pager/Control provides all above mentioned functionality in an easily maintainable way." The iSeries system is an essential component in the ICT infrastructure of ING Commercial Finance running its sales system software. Cannondale rides safely with Pager/Control In January this year US bicycle manufacturer, Cannondale purchased Pager/Control for their two iSeries systems in the European Head Office at Oldenzaal. Pager/Control had been running some weeks already in a pilot installation and on a number of occasions had proved its worth by informing the system manager of a potential problem in time to solve it before valuable production time was lost. Cannondale uses the iSeries systems for company critical applications. Its high reliability means that staff can concentrate on other systems requiring more attention and be safe in the knowledge that should their intervention be required on the iSeries the will be informed immediately by SMS. Gerard Rosink, systems analyst and programmer at Cannondale says about Pager/Control "We chose Pager/Control because we needed to be informed about (system) failures as soon as possible, in order to react as quickly as possible. This to avoid loosing valuable production time for those departments that rely heavily on these iSeries. Those departments are Sales, Purchasing, Planning, Production, Finance, Shipping and Warehouse, in short . . .: the entire company."
